After you check-out I will send you an email asking for your yarn and dye colour choices (yarn: Basic Sock, Classic DK, Classic Worsted. Colours: you may use up to five colours just let me know what you like!).

This in-person class is a hands on introduction to speckle dyeing yarn at the Allison Barnes Yarn home studio.

We will begin with the fun! Dyeing!

Upon entering the dye studio you will see your work station set up with your prepped yarn, pre-selected dye powders, safety equipment and your tools. I will demonstrate a few techniques to apply colour to your yarn then give you time to create your masterpieces because hand dyeing yarn is a true form of art and self expression! In this class you will have time to dye two skeins of yarn of your choice (1 or 2 at a time).

You will be dyeing in a large pot on a hot plate. This is hot and steamy work so please use caution when dyeing so you don’t get burned. I, Allison Barnes cannot be held responsible for misuse or injuries during class. I will demonstrate safe procedures and provide all equipment needed.

Throughout the class you will have opportunities to ask me any questions about yarn dyeing. I will also give tips on how to get the colour to set permanently, and how to make repeatable colours. 

Please be advised that we are doing standing work for the duration of class. Indoor shoes are recommended. Chairs can be provided if needed while waiting for colours to set.

At the end of the class you will get to take home your two dyed skeins of yarn that will still be warm. On your way out you will get a bag to carry your wet yarn and instructions to finish rinsing, washing, and drying your yarn at home.

Cost: $100 per person plus GST.

My home studio is located in Mill Woods, Edmonton. Please note that our house is pet friendly (2 cats) and smoke free. The cats may be curious and enter the studio.

Please note that child care is not available and children who are not taking the class are not allowed in the dye studio. Please leave your children at home unless they are registered in the class. Children age 13-17 years are welcome to register for the class with a registered adult.

Classes are non-refundable. Classes must have a minimum of two people registered to run.

Please arrive 10 minutes early to class so we may begin on time. It is highly recommended that you wear old clothing in case of spills. The floor is painted concrete so bring indoor shoes or slippers to wear inside if you tend to get cold. Gloves and masks will be provided. Please bring a notebook and pen to take notes if you want to remember what we do! There will not be any hand-outs provided in class. You may take photos during class - we just ask that you get permission from other class attendees first if they don't want to appear in any of your photos.
